Unique Translations Ltd. is a company with over 15 years’ experience of providing professional interpretation services, catering to a wide range of project requirements and an extensive list of locations across the country.
We have proven to deliver high quality interpreting services due to our experiences and highly specialised interpreters— being it a medical interpreter facilitating a physician’s appointment or a community interpreter attending Child Access.
Our range of interpretation services can be broken down into two categories:
- face to face interpretation involves interpreters attending an event in person, or
- interpretation via phone offers remote services for meetings, appointments and conference calls.
Our interpreters tailor the types of interpretation to the needs of our clients. We are happy to provide advice on which service is better suited for you personally. You can choose from:
- Consecutive or
- Simultaneous interpretation
Consecutive Interpretation
During consecutive interpretation, the speaker and interpreter take turns. Pauses or breaks in the conversation are made so the interpreter can relay the information to those who need it.
Consecutive interpretation is commonly used in depositions, court hearings, doctor visits, interviews and similar instances when interactive communication is preferred.
Simultaneous Interpretation
During simultaneous interpretation, the interpreter speaks at the same time as the presenter. Equipment is used, such as a transmitter for the interpreter to speak into, and receivers and headsets for the audience.
Simultaneous interpretation is most commonly used for conferences, training and other instances where the information shared is primarily one-way (i.e. presenter to audience.)
Simultauniqueus interpretation is most commonly used for conferences, trainings and other instances where the information shared is primarily one-way (i.e. presenter to audience.)
All of our interpreters follow the Code of Ethics which serves as a guide for interpreters and provides consistency for those working with interpreters ensuring them of faithful renditions and reliability. The overriding tenets of the Code of Ethics are as follows:
- accuracy of interpretation: which means that, every element of the source text must be conveyed and omissions, additions or substitutions of information must be avoided;
- neutrality: when interpreters must remain impartial at all times, not to give advice, not to express their opinions and to avoid side conversations. They also must disclose any conflict of interests and maintain professional relationships with all parties; and
- confidentiality: which implies that all information stays confidential and interpreters will not disclose any information gained from the assignment to outside parties. Exceptions occur only when situations are dangerous and or life threatening. In those instances interpreters are allowed to flout the confidentiality clause.
